Eight Practical Ways to Wear a Pashmina Shawl

One Shawl, Eight Looks

A full-size Pashmina shawl measures roughly 100 by 200 centimetres. That is a generous rectangle of the finest natural fibre available — and it is far more versatile than most people realise.

Here are eight ways we have seen our customers wear theirs.

1. The Simple Drape

Open the shawl fully. Place it across both shoulders and let the ends fall in front. This is the default — elegant, effortless, and appropriate for almost any setting.

2. The Single Shoulder

Gather the shawl loosely and toss it over one shoulder, letting the fabric cascade down the front and back. This creates an asymmetric silhouette that works particularly well with simple, fitted clothing underneath.

3. The Wrapped Scarf

Fold the shawl lengthwise until it becomes a wide scarf. Wrap it once around the neck, adjusting the drape so both ends hang at roughly the same length. This is the most common way to wear Pashmina in colder weather — it frames the face beautifully.

4. The Loose Knot

Start with the wrapped scarf position, then pull one end through the loop while leaving the other end free. Slide the knot to sit slightly off-centre at the chest. Relaxed and polished.

5. The Belted Cape

Drape the shawl over both shoulders like a cape. Add a slim belt at the waist. This transforms it into a structured outer layer — excellent for travel days when you want warmth without bulk.

6. The Head Covering

For occasions that call for it, drape the shawl over the head and let it fall softly over the shoulders. This is the traditional Kashmiri way of wearing Pashmina and remains deeply elegant.

7. The Travel Companion

On aeroplanes, trains, or long car journeys, a full-size Pashmina replaces a blanket. It is warmer, lighter, and infinitely more pleasant against the skin than anything the airline provides. Fold it into your bag when you land.

8. The Formal Stole

Fold the shawl lengthwise into a narrow band. Drape it across the forearms so it hangs behind you. This is the evening option — minimal, refined, and allows any embroidery or colour to be seen clearly.

A Note on Fabric

These styling options work because of how handwoven Pashmina behaves. It drapes naturally, holds a gentle fold without being pinned, and does not slip off the shoulder the way silk does. The fabric cooperates with you rather than fighting you — which is what makes it so pleasant to wear day after day.
